Every Reason to be Alarmed

Green-fingered residents can help protect their garden tools and other items with a security measure that won’t cost them the earth.

The Rochford Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) has special shed alarms for sale at just £6.95 each. They are being made available to the public as part of wider efforts to reduce the seasonal spike in shed breaks. Officers have publicised the issue at their beat surgeries and in leaflet drops across the district.

The alarms can be fitted in the shed or outbuilding and programmed to detect intruders attempting to break in.

The NPT have 40 of the alarms for sale on a first come, first served basis, with quantities limited to one alarm per person.

A number of alarms have already been distributed free of charge to victims of recent shed breaks.

Said PCSO Andrew Hill: “The alarms are straightforward to install and present a real deterrent to the would-be thief. They have been sourced at a very reasonable cost which allows us to make them available to the public for under £7. It is a small price to pay for peace of mind.”

The alarms are available from the Rochford Neighbourhood Policing Team on 07801461653.

In addition to fitting alarms there are a number of other measures residents can take to secure their sheds and outbuildings including strengthening the door and door frame, securing the structure with a substantial chain and shackle padlock and replacing all cracked or broken widows, preferably with Perspex or a polycarbonate sheet which offers greater resistance to attack.
